Update from Momma

I cannot tell you how glad I am to be at home with Audrey. I got extreme cabin fever in the hospital and was extremely emotional. After being in the hospital 4 days and 3 nights I was so ready to sleep in our bed and smell all the comforts of home. Evan's family (Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother-in- Law, and 7 month old nephew Parker) is staying with us and have helped us out tremendously. I really have enjoyed all the wonderful help and advice. They have cooked all the meals, washed clothes, watched Audrey while Evan and I have slept, and have been loads of encouragement to us. Like any newborn baby Audrey's time clock is off. She is awake during the night and asleep during the day. She also wants to be held constantly and has a hard time laying in her bed. After observing all these things last night we have worked today on not holding her as much when she is sleeping and laying her down on a flat surface that mimics her bed. She has done really well so I'm hoping tonight will go a little smoother. Things will just take time :)

I am excited to announce that breast feeding is going great!! What a relief! But, after working with the lactation consultant we discovered that Audrey is tongue tied. This is very common on Evan's side of the family. Both his sister and her son Parker had this characteristic. For Audrey she is able to feed and latch but she makes more of a chomping motion then a wave with her tongue to get her milk. She really has adapted well, but we are hoping to get it clipped sometime this week to allow her to have full range motion with her tongue. The lactation consultant assured me that this will relieve the pain of the initial latch and suck. - I feel so blessed that she is able to get the milk that she needs and that it is filling and satisfying to her.

Gotta go feed! update later!!:)

I'm glad to read that y'all are home and doing well! Looking forward to more pictures soon :)

I was just reading about tongue tied babies today, and how that affects nursing. I was thinking how I've never heard of that, and then I read this. Crazy. Good to know you can get it clipped and everything should be better.

Congratulations on your beautiful little girl!
